RF IC firm Rafael Micro (6568) announced a 10G TIA chip aimed at 5G and large data-center markets. The supply chain says design-ins are underway, with volume shipments expected from 2021.
Rising bandwidth demand from 5G, cloud, data centers and remote work is pushing governments, carriers and data centers to expand optical networks into enterprise fiber, FTTX, 5G and hyperscale cloud.
Rafael Micro’s 10G TIA conforms to 10G SFP+, 10G EPON and XG/XGS-PON. CEO Ted Sun said PON is the main FTTX technology; as 10G PON matures, operators are upgrading for new services and bandwidth.
