Rafael Micro launches the RT18X optical communication chip series for high-speed data terminals, conforming to HDMI 2.0/2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB3.2, supporting interference-free high-speed data and ultra-HD video from centimeters to hundreds of meters.
RT18X includes: (1) RT180/181 for HDMI 2.0 / DP 1.3 at 24 Gbps; (2) RT182/183 for HDMI 2.1 / DP 1.4 at 48 Gbps; (3) RT184/185 for HDMI 2.1 / DP 1.4 at 48 Gbps plus 1 Gbps for full AOC. Built on TSMC advanced CMOS with low power and high reliability — TX under 200 mW, RX powered from the signal under 300 mW — with pin-compatible upgrades to cut OE module cost. Future support includes USB-C and higher-speed standards.
In the 5G era, optical links are key to remote office, telemedicine, 4K/8K, VR and autonomous driving. CEO Ted Sun said RT18X offers ultra-high RX sensitivity and TIA gain matching market PDs, can drive VCSEL LEDs, and supports multi-lane links up to 12 Gbps per lane over 300 m for half- and full-optical AOC — for 4K/8K TV, VR headsets, office displays and large public signage. Optical links are also suited to lossless medical imaging and in-vehicle high-speed links immune to engine surge noise.
RT18X has passed third-party compatibility testing against 89 TV, STB, PC and tablet models and is shipping to equipment and cable makers.
